Pennefeather Editorial Services
offers assistance in three major areas:

Developmental editing: In the first stage, your text is in draft form or simply an idea. As your editor, I’ll review a proposal or draft manuscript and offer advice about which direction it might take. It’s big-picture time, with room to dream a bit while you brainstorm the best approach.

Copyediting: At this stage, the text is complete and ready for clean up. As your editor, I’ll work at the sentence level, smoothing your prose, watching for inconsistencies or redundancies, and making suggestions about content. All changes are tracked in your word processing document, and your task will be to accept or reject my suggestions. No changes are made without your approval. The goal is clear, concise text that amplifies your voice and meets your readers’ expectations.

Proofreading: At this final stage, your text is nearly ready to be released to your audience. As your proofreader, I’ll review every last word to make sure no errors or formatting oddities have crept in during the editing process. After this last-minute check, you’ll be ready to hit “print.”

Between copyediting and proofreading is page design and layout. If you’re planning to publish a book, I can connect you with designers who will develop a cover and interior look that enhances your text. If your project would benefit from an index, I’ll point you toward professionals who will ensure that readers can find the information they’re seeking. If your audience is more intimate than, say, the shoppers at amazon.com, I can offer advice about format and layout and help maintain consistency throughout the document.

Please be in touch with questions or to discuss your project. Together we’ll agree on the type of work to be done and an hourly or project-based fee. I’ll provide a sample for your review, and we’ll collaborate throughout the process to reach the ideal text, perfectly suited to your audience and purpose.

Getting published is easier than ever given the wealth of companies that can help assemble your book and get it listed on amazon.com and other sites. Before you move to design and layout, however, every manuscript can benefit from a new set of eyes.
